5 Scientific Answers To Why You're Always Cold

Even if it's 90 degrees outside, some people are always cold. It's a trait most people just get used to and solve with blankets and warm layers. However, there might be a scientific explanation to these cold spells. Check out the top reasons why you need to bundle up, courtesy of Reader's Digest:

  1. Low Iron - You might be anemic and not even know it. Low iron levels mean your red blood cells can't bring oxygen into your blood, which affects circulation. Alyssa Tucci, MS, explains that this may be the case if your arms and legs are always cold.
  2. Lack of Sleep - As Reader's Digest explains, there is some debate as to whether or not getting enough sleep affects body temperature. However, it does through off one's metabolism, which can cause chills throughout the day.
  3. Thyroid Problems - Speaking of an irregular metabolism, a thyroid problem is a common cause for constant cold spells as well. A lack of thyroid hormone can cause body temperature to be off as well as other symptoms.
  4. Dehydration - Without proper hydration, your body circulatory system will cause havoc for your body temperature.
  5. A Lack of Fat in your Diet - Usually, a low-fat diet is a very good thing. Yet one of its consequences is always feeling cold. When faced with frigid temperatures, our bodies yearn for bulkier, heartier foods.

So forget the blankets and space heaters, maybe the real answer on how to heat up your life lies in one of these reasons!
